Your testimonies are wonderful! Therefore my soul will keep them.
The entrance of your word gives light and understanding to the simple.
Let not the word not merely stay in the ear, but enter the soul as well! If you hear the word but do not retain it, of what benefit is that? Enter, illuminate! O soul, do well to keep this light.
I open my mouth wide and panted, for I longed for your commandments.
Word: Light, and Word: Water. We are branches, and in need of both. For fruitfulness, the tree stretches its members toward both: toward water to grow and put forth the leaves, a plethora of miniature shovels to pool the light, and produce the food that is needed to flower, and bear fruit.
Look upon me and have mercy,, as you always do to those who love your Name.
Do you love the Name, both in discipline and in mercy? In our sojourning we are faithless, but His Name is always faithful: look upon us! If my sins and transgressing behavior received its due, I bear it alone, and my being would amount to insignificance–nothing, a mist, a shadow, a vapor, a stench that soon evaporates. Your look on my life, though it destroy me, is Life. Your countenance, Your smile, is Light, and our relationship is founded and grows on Mercy.
Keep my steps steady by your word.
Word: Pacing, Rhythm, Ballast.
All let no iniquity have dominion over me.
The position of the Word in our live reveals the sin that is there, whether by our own transgression, or by (lack of ) virtue of the spiritual dwelling place of our inheritance–the landscape wrought by the generations that brought us forth. The position of the Word in our lives prevents the sin also from having dominion, though it be present. Let His Word have dominion, by its indwelling illumination. How good to be dominated by the tyranny of light! What better substance as ballast than light?
Redeem me from oppression of man, that I may keep your commandments!
These Words, let these words lead you in a path of obedience and conformity. This is by faith alone, for no man has or shall walk this same path. And trusting in man instead of God will subject you to slavery to precepts that are not the liberating truth of God.
Make your face shine upon your servant and teach me all your statutes.
Again, light to direct and prosper this path, and light in which we may learn. All learning and growing accelerates in a sunrise of glory which reveals the landscape afresh–full of beauty and mystery and possibility.
Rivers of water run down from my eyes, because men do not keep your law.
I was thirsty for your word, and waters that would satisfy.
I saw by your word, for its beauty so illumined the house of my soul, that by it I saw all beauty.
But though your word on high did dominate all things with its generous countenance, the dark yet dwelt in the hearts of men.
I saw men whose eyes would not see, and whose ears could hear, but not listen.
Their path was set, but they stumbled in the day, darkness not comprehending the light.
That which gives light in egress, is water as it exits, and it will not return void to its Lord.
