Two brothers, newly arrived in China. One with a camera, the other with a pencil. We found ourselves in a land of mist and stone, in the southwestern region of China. These photos were taken in 2004-2005 in Guizhou Province China. Guizhou is yet a land of many paths. Some paths traverse wild, hard mountainsides that bear marks of an ancient sea, some wear through exhausted fields that long for the sun, and some paths detour around monolithic networks of bamboo scaffolding above raucous street markets, raw by day, fluorescent by night. We reached these places by bus, usually, sometimes by train, sometimes by minivan, and often by foot. We visited schools and medical clinics, explored city streets, and rested in clouds, drinking wonderful tea made from felt green slivers of rain and vegetable life. Cheers!
